Job Title: Senior Technical Writer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Writer to join our team at Atlas Technologies Inc. in North Charleston, SC. As a Senior Technical Writer, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining technical documentation for our Department of Defense (DoD) clients.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will have a strong background in technical writing, with experience in creating high-quality documentation for complex technical systems. You will be responsible for researching and writing technical content, as well as collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that documentation meets the needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for complex technical systems, including test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that documentation meets the needs of our clients.
  • Research and write technical content, including user manuals, guides, and other documentation.
  • Review and validate project-specific technical documentation.
  • Obtain and track official document ID numbers and upload products to government sites.
  • Update specific technical documentation to adhere to government standards.
  • Perform Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) on Technical Documentation.
  • Develop SOVTs for System Level, Platform Level, and Integrated Intermediate-Level (I-Level) standardized formats.
  • Provide reports of documentation progress, status, and issues.
  • May assist testing lead with development of software test plans, procedures, and reports, including researching software change logs and developing test procedures to validate functionality.
Requirements
  • US Citizenship
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret Level Security Clearance
  • Strong documentation and oral communication skills to clearly communicate with all levels of employees, management, and organizations
  • Possession of strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, self-govern, and balance multiple goals and priorities
  • The ability to write testing documents, procedure manuals, and business correspondence.
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • The ability to work with teammates and technical experts in a highly collaborative environment
  • A strong work ethic and commitment to quality
  • Experience using Extensible Markup Language (XML) formats using prescribed Document Type Definitions (DTDs) or schemas.
  • Experience using Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Experience with Navy or DoD documents, processes, procedures, and/or terminology.
  • A computer hardware, software, or technical background is a plus.
  • Working experience and knowledge of any of the following documentation is considered a plus: SOVT, SOP, SOM, IETM, Technical Manual, PITCO, SDD, Test Plans, Load Plans, BESEP
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Computer Science, or a related field preferred, but other degrees may be considered in combination of education, professional training, or work experience.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in the development and maintenance of systems and software engineering documentation, to include: writing/editing technical documentation, procedures, and guidelines
