Position Summary:
As a Duty Drawback Specialist, you will oversee all elements of a client's drawback program. Your responsibilities will encompass the collection and analysis of essential import and export data, ensuring the submission of precise and timely claims, serving as the main point of contact between the client and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and guaranteeing the program's success and adherence to regulations. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze, format, and validate all data to ensure accurate and complete drawback claims and maintain related documentation.
- Keep detailed notes on any specific nuances or peculiarities associated with the client's data, product identification codes, bills of material, claims, or account management methodologies.
- Comprehend the client's expectations regarding duty recovery and service levels.
- Escalate any client, data, or claim issues and delays to the Department Manager as necessary.
- Adopt a customer-centric approach by providing regular updates on claim submissions or data issues that may affect the timeliness of claims. Prioritize over-communication to ensure clarity.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is required. Familiarity with CBP compliance and drawback regulations is essential. Previous experience in international trade compliance or a Customs environment is preferred. The ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines is crucial. A Licensed Customhouse Broker designation is a plus.
Skills:
Exceptional technical and computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Access, are necessary. A detail-oriented mindset, proactive attitude, and strong teamwork capabilities are essential. Excellent customer service skills are required.
Performance Expectations:
Demonstrate a solid understanding of departmental processes and procedures within the first 90 days. Show basic knowledge of the drawback process within 180 days of employment. Maintain high accuracy in all claims, documentation, and communications with clients and CBP. Ensure timely responses to inquiries from clients and CBP. Exhibit professionalism in all interactions.
