POSITION SUMMARY: Under general oversight, this role is dedicated to ensuring a secure and safe atmosphere for both educators and students. The officer will investigate and take necessary actions concerning criminal activities occurring within the educational environment, while also serving as an informal advisor and mediator to students to prevent issues from escalating.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide law enforcement presence at designated educational institutions.
  • Conduct thorough investigations and document incidents of criminal behavior on campus in accordance with established policies.
  • Analyze crime statistics and collaborate with local law enforcement, school officials, and students to develop effective crime prevention strategies.
  • Foster a strong partnership with school administration to promote a secure educational environment.
  • Assist in emergency preparedness planning and enhance building security protocols.
  • Maintain visibility within the school community and actively participate in school events.
  • Engage with students to promote a positive image of law enforcement.
  • Collaborate with guidance counselors and support staff to provide assistance to students, including referrals to external service agencies when necessary.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution initiatives.
  • Investigate non-criminal matters such as missing persons and found property.
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with the public and colleagues during daily operations.

ON-PATROL DUTIES:

  • Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activities, typically utilizing a designated vehicle.
  • Employ investigative techniques to develop cases against offenders.
  • Document investigative processes, including interviews, evidence collection, and preparation of legal documents.
  • Present cases to the appropriate legal authorities.
  • Respond to emergency situations to safeguard lives and property, often in relation to criminal activities.
  • Apprehend suspects as circumstances require.
  • Compile detailed reports of patrol and investigative activities for supervisory review.
  • Enforce traffic regulations through patrol and citation issuance.
  • Prepare and submit crime and traffic reports related to incidents and accidents.
  • Fulfill court-related obligations, including testifying as necessary.
  • Engage in crime prevention and educational initiatives organized by the law enforcement agency.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess a valid Peace Officer license through the relevant law enforcement authority.
  • Preferred: At least 30 college credit hours from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of background checks, psychological evaluations, and drug testing is mandatory.
  • Must demonstrate good moral character and adhere to standards set by law enforcement policies.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

WORKING HOURS: The officer will adhere to the school district's schedule, with full-time officers reporting to patrol duties when school is not in session. Less than full-time officers will not be compensated during breaks, except for designated holidays or when utilizing accrued leave.
