Position Summary
The Registered Nurse in the Cardiology Clinic is responsible for overseeing and delivering care to patients within the Regional Cardiology unit. This role involves preparing patients and their medical records for consultations, applying Event Monitors, conducting EKG processes, and collaborating with physicians during Exercise Stress Testing procedures. These tests, monitored by EKG, help identify potential coronary artery disease through observed changes.
Key Responsibilities

- Exhibit proficiency in performing treatments and delivering services in accordance with licensure.
- Ensure all patient care activities are conducted in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors.
- Implement medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and specialized procedures.
- Engage with other departments as necessary to adopt a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Adhere to current documentation standards and institutional policies.
- Respond appropriately to patients in emergency or distressing situations.
- Foster positive working relationships within the department and across other departments.
- Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to perform under pressure.
- Conduct EKGs following established protocols.
- Position electrodes on the chest to capture electrocardiogram readings that reflect electrical variations in the heart muscle.
- Monitor EKG readings for any irregular patterns.
- Input data into the EKG machine and annotate tracings to indicate electrode placements.
- Maintain an adequate supply of paper and ink for the EKG machine.
- Attach Event Monitor electrodes to patients for extended data recording.
- Assist physicians during stress testing procedures.
- Safely manage and operate cardiology equipment, ensuring proper functionality and reporting any malfunctions.
- Clean examination rooms and equipment between patient visits and at the end of the day.
- Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Possess thorough knowledge of departmental forms and logs.
- Participate in educational in-service programs to maintain professional competency.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
1. Graduation from an accredited RN program is mandatory.
2. A valid RN license in the state of Louisiana is required.
3. Current BCLS certification is essential.
4. Basic Arrhythmia interpretation skills are necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
1. At least six months of relevant work experience is preferred.
2. PALS and/or NRP certifications are advantageous.
