About the Role

Alta Planning + Design is seeking a Senior Multimodal Transportation Engineer to join our Oakland office design team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of sustainable transportation in California and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of multimodal transportation projects, including complete street reconfigurations, bikeway design, and shared use path design.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop construction documents and produce high-quality graphics.
  • Manage transportation projects at various levels of planning and design, ensuring timely completion and budget adherence.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external clients, stakeholders, and team members to ensure project success.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff members, promoting professional growth and development within the company.
  • Pursue opportunities to enhance Alta's position in the marketplace through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience as a Transportation Engineer in a consulting environment or public entity.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license.
  • Experience in active, non-motorized transportation, including bikeway design, shared use path design, and complete street reconfigurations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple simultaneous projects, and budgetary constraints.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field of study.
  • Experience managing large projects for both private and public clients.
  • Experience writing and/or presenting white papers and/or providing expert-level presentations at conferences and other events promoting sustainable infrastructure and active, non-motorized transportation.

  • Compensation: The pay range for this job in Oakland is $115,000-$175,000 annually.
