Dallas, Oregon, United States Magnet Medical Full time

Magnet Medical is seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Imaging Specialist for a travel position in Oregon.

About the Role
  • This exciting opportunity involves working as a CT Technologist, utilizing computed tomography scanners to perform diagnostic imaging procedures.

A Diagnostic Imaging Specialist operates CT scanners to capture high-quality images of patients' bodies, assisting physicians in diagnosing conditions such as injuries, infections, cancers, and other abnormalities. The ideal candidate will ensure patient comfort and safety, prepare imaging equipment, and collaborate with the healthcare team to obtain accurate diagnostic information.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Patient Preparation and Communication:
  • Prepare patients for CT scans by explaining the procedure, addressing concerns, and ensuring they are comfortable throughout the process.
  • Verify patient information, including medical history, allergies, and prior imaging, to guarantee accurate diagnosis and suitable imaging protocols.
  • Position patients correctly on the CT table to obtain required images, prioritizing their safety and comfort.
  • Instruct patients on how to hold their breath or remain still during scans, adhering to specific procedure requirements.
  1. Operation of CT Equipment:
  • Operate and calibrate the CT scanner, ensuring optimal settings for each scan, including parameters like radiation dose, slice thickness, and imaging protocols.
  • Administer contrast agents or dye injections (under physician or radiologist guidance) to enhance image clarity during certain CT procedures.
  • Monitor the equipment during imaging to guarantee high-quality images are captured and no errors occur.
  1. Image Quality and Review:
  • Review CT images for quality, ensuring all necessary areas are captured and the images meet diagnostic standards.
  • Collaborate closely with radiologists to confirm that images are of sufficient quality to support diagnosis.
  • Repeat or adjust scans as needed to improve image quality or ensure comprehensive imaging coverage.
  1. Patient Safety and Comfort:
  • Adhere to safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients, using the lowest possible dose for effective imaging and applying shielding where necessary.
  • Maintain a sterile, safe, and clean environment in the CT room, sanitizing all equipment between patients.
  • Evaluate patient positioning to prevent any risk of injury or discomfort during the scan, particularly for vulnerable patients like those with spinal injuries or mobility challenges.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to contrast agents and alert the physician or healthcare provider if necessary.
  1. Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work effectively with physicians, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to determine appropriate imaging procedures and contribute to diagnosing medical conditions.
  • Accurately document patient information, scan parameters, contrast media used, and any complications in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Participate in patient care planning, collaborating with the team to determine the best approach for imaging in complex cases.
  1. Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Regularly maintain, clean, and perform basic troubleshooting on the CT scanner and associated equipment, ensuring proper functioning.
  • Conduct routine inspections and calibration of CT equipment and notify maintenance staff about any malfunctioning or unsafe equipment.
  • Keep detailed logs of equipment use, maintenance, and any repairs or service performed.
  1. Radiation Safety and Compliance:
  • Fully comply with radiation safety protocols to protect both patients and staff, including the use of appropriate shielding and adherence to dosage guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, safety standards, and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Stay informed about updates to regulatory standards, encompassing radiation safety, patient privacy, and procedural guidelines.
  1. Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Thoroughly document imaging procedures, patient information, and any adverse events or changes in patient status.
  • Guarantee that all documentation meets hospital or clinic policies, medical record-keeping regulations, and industry standards.
  • Assist in maintaining patient flow by providing timely imaging results when required.
  1. Patient Education and Support:
  • Provide education and guidance to patients regarding post-procedure care following contrast injections, potential side effects, and follow-up procedures.
  • Address patient concerns about the procedure, including fears of radiation exposure or claustrophobia, offering necessary support.
  • Ensure patient privacy and dignity are maintained throughout the imaging process.
  1. Professional Development and Training:
  • Engage in ongoing education to stay current with advancements in CT imaging technology, protocols, and safety procedures.
  • Attend in-house training sessions and seminars on new imaging techniques or equipment.
  • Maintain professional certification and licensure, including any continuing education requirements.
