Position Overview
The role of the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Educator is pivotal in fostering a dynamic and engaging learning atmosphere that motivates students to achieve excellence in their culinary education. This position demands adherence to high professional standards and ethical practices in education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction in culinary arts and hospitality courses.
- Design and develop innovative culinary programs and curricula.
- Implement an outcomes-driven and interdisciplinary curriculum.
- Exhibit instructional proficiency in culinary/hospitality knowledge and assess student performance effectively.
- Maintain a student-centered approach.
- Collaborate with the Admissions Department to attract students to the Culinary and Hospitality Management programs.
- Engage in community outreach initiatives as necessary.
- Utilize innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance student learning.
- Encourage a collaborative learning environment that transcends traditional classroom boundaries.
- Coordinate with the Department Director regarding scheduling and utilization of the Mobile Teaching Kitchen.
- Manage procurement of supplies, food, and equipment for the culinary program.
- Facilitate additional educational experiences for students, including catering services, event support, and competitions.
- Stay informed about degree requirements and provide guidance to students in Culinary/Hospitality programs.
- Assist in the development and compliance of departmental and program budgets.
- Participate actively in academic program reviews and assessments of student learning outcomes.
- Revise course offerings as necessary.
- Collaborate with local high school educators to provide concurrent and/or dual credit courses.
- Attend college and university articulation conferences and departmental meetings.
- Share relevant student information with faculty and counselors as appropriate.
- Maintain regular office hours for student support.
- Represent the division on college committees as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education
- Master's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience, preferably in a higher education context.
- No specific licenses required.
- Experience in the culinary/hospitality industry.
- Teaching or coordination experience in a higher education environment.
- In-depth knowledge of the culinary discipline.
- Understanding of curriculum development and assessment in culinary/hospitality education.
- Familiarity with internships and apprenticeships in the culinary/hospitality sectors.
- Proficiency in various instructional methods and technologies that support student learning outcomes.
- Commitment to exploring innovative educational approaches in a community college setting.
- Awareness of institutional policies and procedures.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft applications.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to connect with a diverse student population.
- Capability to foster a collaborative and supportive environment within the college and community.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively resolve issues.
- Competence in using technology for instructional purposes.
- Ability to maintain professional relationships with students and colleagues.
- Skills in administrative tasks such as data entry and document management.
- Effective communication skills for composing and delivering presentations.
