Landscape Services Foreman Job Description

Job Summary:

The University of Tennessee is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Landscape Services Foreman to join our Facilities Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising a crew of landscape gardeners and lawn aides, ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of our campus grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate assigned work areas for cleanliness and grooming, and schedule required work accordingly.
  • Supervise a group or crew of landscape gardeners and lawn aides, determining job assignments, evaluating progress, and making adjustments as needed.
  • Perform year-round landscape maintenance, including pruning, planting, and weeding techniques.
  • Train crew members on safe use of landscape equipment and procedures for efficient task completion.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties, such as litter removal and other requests by supervision.

Requirements:

  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License
  • High School degree or equivalent
  • 4 years of commercial landscape experience
  • 1 year of outside supervisory experience or experience leading UT Landscape Services crews during absence of Foreman
  • TN Dept. of Agriculture Pesticide Certification – Category 3

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lead others, enforce policies and procedures, and apply discipline
  • Ability to perform hard physical work for long periods in all types of weather
  • Ability to read and follow instructions
  • Ability to interpret landscape construction drawings and install as specified
  • Ability to maintain daily work records by use of computer database software and email

Working Conditions:

The Landscape Services Foreman will work in an outdoor environment, performing physical labor in various weather conditions. The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required.

Education and Experience:

A high school degree or equivalent and 4 years of commercial landscape experience are required. 1 year of outside supervisory experience or experience leading UT Landscape Services crews during absence of Foreman is also required.

Certifications and Licenses:

A valid Tennessee Driver's License and TN Dept. of Agriculture Pesticide Certification – Category 3 are required.

Physical Demands:

The Landscape Services Foreman will be required to perform physical labor in various weather conditions, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
