Position Overview: The Universal Banker plays a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service to clients by efficiently managing transactions, identifying client needs, and suggesting suitable products and services. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the teller team and ensuring the smooth functioning of the branch. Additionally, the Universal Banker is tasked with generating referrals and coaching tellers on effective sales techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of all banking products and services, highlighting their features and benefits to meet client needs.
  • Engage in the bank's referral and sales initiatives, participating in campaigns and training to achieve set goals.
  • Collaborate daily with the Branch Manager to discuss sales and service operations.
  • Guide tellers in achieving their sales referral targets while providing outstanding customer service.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for opening and maintaining accounts tailored to client requirements.
  • Assist clients with inquiries related to loans and prepare them for the application process, identifying further opportunities.
  • Manage IRA transactions, including contract preparation and renewals.
  • Facilitate the opening, redemption, and interest calculations for Certificates of Deposit.
  • Support customers with Safe Deposit Box rentals, ensuring compliance with security protocols.
  • Conduct balancing of vault cash, ATM, and branch totals, alongside monthly audits.
  • Exhibit empathy and understanding when addressing customer requests and complaints, ensuring satisfactory resolutions.
  • Maintain awareness of lobby activity to efficiently serve customers, adjusting priorities as needed.
  • Stay informed about competing banks' products and promotions to make informed recommendations.
  • Ensure adherence to dual control policies among staff members.
  • Possess the authority to open and close the branch following established security protocols.
  • Authorize transactions up to a specified limit and manage teller system overrides.
  • Initiate outbound sales calls to current and potential clients.
  • Operate a teller window as required.
  • Exhibit flexibility in work schedules to meet branch staffing needs and foster teamwork.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED; a college degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in retail banking or a customer service/sales role.
  • At least one year of experience in account opening, sales, and operations is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory and sales experience is highly desirable.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to lead and inspire a team while actively participating in the bank's referral program.
  • Strong judgment, decision-making, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Professional demeanor with a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively inform staff about policy changes.
  • Thorough understanding of daily branch, vault, and ATM operations.
  • Expected to exercise sound judgment in resolving client and employee issues.
