Medical Laboratory Specialist

As a Medical Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality laboratory testing services to patients. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring accurate and timely results, which will inform healthcare decisions and improve patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct laboratory testing, including chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests, to provide data for treatment and diagnosis of disease. Apply techniques used in fields of microbiology, histo-pathology, hematology, diagnostic immunology, immunohematology, chemistry, or morphological examinations.
Organize workflow to accomplish efficient and accurate output. Review and verify results for accuracy and credibility prior to release. Record and report results in a timely manner.
Problem-solve to achieve acceptable test results and ensure optimal system and instrument operations. Interpret and verify lab findings with regard to type and quality of specimen submitted. Correlate test results with available clinical information and other laboratory data.
Analyze and evaluate each process of testing to ensure final results are valid and accurate. Maintain and update technical knowledge and skills by actively participating in department meetings, continuing education, and inservice instructions. Assist in development of operational procedures to ensure effective workflow.
Serve as a resource with automated and other equipment, and in standard operation decision-making. Coordinate laboratory operations in the absence of a supervisor. Ensure compliance with Quality Control and Quality Assurance Programs. Address quality of service issues and implement internal quality assurance monitors or projects.
Take corrective action to resolve problems. Review unresolved problems with a supervisor. Report action limit results according to standard procedures. May serve as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA 88 for High Complexity Testing. Perform proficiency testing and report results. Advise providers and nursing service personnel of correct procedures for collection, handling, and processing of specimens. Assist providers in determining appropriate laboratory services to be used for patient care.
Assist in training of technical students and/or new technologist employees. Assist in development of technical procedures and in writing training procedures. Review and critique new procedures developed by others. Detect and repair subtle instrument and/or reagent problems.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in medical technology from an accredited school or four years of experience in a directly related field. Medical Technologist License (Hawaii) required at hire. Good knowledge and skills of general clinical lab.
