Position Overview
This role is situated within the Agricultural Research Service, specifically at the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center, within the Food Surveys Research Group.

Key Responsibilities
In this capacity, you will take charge of the planning, structuring, and execution of dietary intake assessments. Your duties will include the development and upkeep of extensive food and nutrient databases, alongside the generation of food and nutrition-related insights, both in written and spoken formats.

Primary Duties Include:

  • Monitoring and evaluating food consumption patterns and related behaviors among the U.S. population through comprehensive surveys, providing essential data for food and nutrition-related initiatives and policy-making.
  • Designing, implementing, and overseeing nationwide dietary surveys; analyzing the collected data and contributing to various phases of the research project.
  • Coordinating the planning and execution of research focused on survey methodologies to enhance USDA dietary surveys and food and nutrient databases, ensuring data quality and reliability.
  • Conducting diverse research studies, from identifying pertinent research topics to interpreting findings and preparing final reports.
  • Supervising the activities of graduate students, temporary staff, undergraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting scientists.
  • Making selections for positions, recommending candidates for supervisory roles, and managing work assignments and performance evaluations.
  • Participating in workshops, symposia, and committees aimed at evaluating scientific data and proposals.
  • Providing technical and peer reviews for speeches, publications, administrative documents, and other communications related to your area of expertise.

Qualifications
To be considered for this position, applicants must fulfill all qualifications and eligibility criteria by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or educational background.

Basic Requirements
Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications for all grade levels:

  • A Bachelor's or higher degree in dietetics, nutrition, food service management, or a related field.
  • The educational program must have been accredited by a recognized accrediting body at the time the degree was awarded.
  • Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or clinical component approved for dietitians or nutritionists.
  • Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Specialized Experience Requirements
Applicants must also meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • For GS-12: One year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11, directly related to dietary intake surveys and food and nutrient database management.
  • For GS-13: One year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12, overseeing dietary intake surveys and applying new methodologies and technologies.
