Job Summary

Melwood is seeking a skilled Grounds Maintenance Laborer to join our team. As a Grounds Maintenance Laborer, you will be responsible for maintaining the grounds of our facilities, including trimming and edging, pruning shrubs and trees, and raking leaves.

Key Responsibilities
  • Trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls using clippers and edging tools.
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears.
  • Rake leaves and clean or sweep up litter using a spiked stick or broom.
  • Shovel snow from walks and driveways.
  • Spread salt on public passage ways.
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods using a hose or by activating a fixed or portable sprinkler system.
  • Clean out drainage ditches and culverts using a shovel and rake.
  • Operate walking-type power mowers, snow blowers, or roto tillers.
  • Perform a variety of laboring duties when yard work is completed.
Physical Qualifications

The incumbent must be able to stand/walk 70% and sit 30% of the work time. These requirements are necessary to operate power equipment and mowers, plant vegetation, rake, shovel, etc. He/she must be able to lift/carry/push/pull 100 pounds, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle, in order to load and unload materials and equipment; must be able to communicate with other workers/supervisors; must possess good vision and be able to differentiate colors, as driving and operating power equipment may be required.

Qualifications

At least one year of experience in landscape maintenance work, including experience in mowing with a push mower and weeding. Should be able to provide own transportation to work site.
