Position Overview

JST is actively seeking a Cloud Systems Engineer to enhance our capabilities within a government framework. The Cloud Systems Engineer is crucial in architecting, executing, and sustaining cloud infrastructure tailored for government operations. This position is tasked with guaranteeing the security, efficiency, and dependability of cloud-based systems and services. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience with cloud platforms, robust technical expertise, and a comprehensive understanding of DoD (Department of Defense) security protocols and requirements. A proactive mindset towards problem-solving, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment are essential. This role involves managing cloud infrastructure services, facilitating cloud deployments, and collaborating with development teams and other stakeholders to define requirements for new or enhanced infrastructure services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain the infrastructure and functionality of cloud systems.
  • Develop and execute cloud infrastructure solutions aligned with DoD standards and security protocols.
  • Manage and deploy cloud resources, including virtual machines, storage, and networking components on platforms like Google Cloud.
  • Ensure the high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery capabilities of cloud environments.
  • Implement and uphold cloud security best practices to safeguard sensitive information and adhere to DoD regulations.
  • Conduct regular security evaluations and vulnerability assessments of cloud environments.
  • Oversee identity and access management (IAM) policies and role-based access controls.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to cloud infrastructure and services.
  • Create and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Automate repetitive tasks and workflows to enhance efficiency and minimize operational overhead.
  • Optimize cloud resource utilization and costs through continuous monitoring and tuning.
  • Collaborate closely with development, operations, and security teams to support cloud-based applications and services, including AI (artificial intelligence), ML (machine learning), and LLM (large language model) services.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members and stakeholders.
  • Document cloud architectures, configurations, and procedures for knowledge sharing and compliance.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and third-party service providers as necessary.
  • Ensure all IT activities comply with DoD regulations, standards, and security protocols.
  • Assist in implementing security measures to protect sensitive information and systems.
  • Report any security incidents or breaches to the appropriate authorities.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Must be available to travel up to 4 times a year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, but relevant experience will be considered.
  • Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or equivalent.
  • Relevant cloud certifications including AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience or equivalent in cloud platforms.
  • Expertise in cloud architecture design, deployment, and management.
  • Understanding of cloud security principles and practices, including encryption, IAM, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Ability to automate cloud operations and streamline processes.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to stay updated with evolving cloud technologies and industry best practices.
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies, and procedures.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a DoD or government IT environment.
  • Preferred experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
  • Experience with Smartsheet, Salesforce, and Google Workspace.

Clearances and Screenings

  • MUST be able to pass a US Government Security Clearance.
  • MUST have an active secret clearance or be able to obtain one.
