POSITION: Special Education LRE Teaching Assistant

REPORTS TO: Principal of Dunlap

STARTING DATE: August 2024

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must meet the ESSA highly qualified requirement of 60 college credit hours or successfully pass the ETS Para test for Reading, Writing, and Math prior to employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support the classroom educator with instructional tasks for students on the caseload.
  • Participate in team meetings and other relevant gatherings as needed.
  • Facilitate communication between general education instructors and student services personnel.
  • Assist in the design and execution of educational activities. The Teaching Assistant, under the guidance of the teacher, will oversee the student(s) and will guide, support, and instruct the students as necessary.
  • Manage student behavior using approved behavioral strategies and techniques.
  • Help maintain classroom organization, including supplies and materials.
  • Contribute to the preparation of instructional resources for teaching and classroom displays.
  • Independently conduct small group sessions.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and keep records of student progress in academics and behavior.
  • Oversee classroom management, including the handling of required documentation.
  • Ensure consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Present a professional appearance.
  • Follow district health and safety protocols.
  • Uphold confidentiality standards.
  • Assist with student supervision.
  • Comply with Board Policies.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
WAGES AND BENEFITS:
  • $18.50 per hour
  • Eligible employees will be enrolled in the Michigan schools retirement system.
