CNC Machinist and Programmer

SMS group Inc. is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist II/Programmer to join our team. As a key member of our machine shop, you will be responsible for operating and programming CNC machines to produce precision parts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write and modify programs to increase efficiency
- Utilize CAD/CAM software to design and optimize parts
- Analyze job orders and make calculations for programming
- Create, document, and backup all programs, as well as update setup sheets and tool lists as required
- Determine the sequence of operation in a program
- Perform complex disassembly and assembly work duties
- Set up and operate various machine tools to produce close tolerance parts
- Ensure quality and production requirements are met, adhering to travelers and blueprints
- Monitor programs to ensure they follow blueprint instructions and complete tasks safely and successfully
- Complete forms, routers, and related paperwork
- Keep work areas, tools, and equipment clean and orderly
- Perform grit blasting, powder coating, operate the tool crib, and complete related tasks
- Perform non-destructive tests, take measurements, and record conformance/nonconformance
- Review procedures, layouts, templates, jigs, incoming parts, assemblies, and related tasks
- Assist in the development of job-related JSA's/Work Instructions
- Perform clean up, removal of trash, coolant, oil, scrap, chips, etc.
- Move equipment and parts using the fork truck, crane, or other material handling equipment
- Assist other employees as directed by management or group leaders
- Be a safety-minded worker who is drug-free and dependable with an excellent attendance record
- Report and/or correct all unsafe conditions immediately
- Report any safety incidents promptly
- Mentor other employees as needed
- Perform all other assigned duties
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; CNC programming preferred
- Reading/Writing skills (literacy) as required
- Mathematics – Knows advanced shop math and other functions necessary for the job
- Technical machine tool training and/or significant previous related machining experience
- Completes all training and education deemed necessary by management
- Blueprint reading – interprets drawings
- Overhead crane and forklift experience
- Ability to work in a job shop setting
