About the Position

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Computing Librarian to join our team at the University Libraries. As a key member of the Science and Technology Team, you will provide expert support for students and faculty in the School of Computing within the College of Engineering and Computing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruction: Develop and deliver high-quality instruction to STEM faculty, staff, and students in assigned subject areas, utilizing general and subject-specific knowledge, current technologies, and appropriate pedagogies.
  • Reference and Research: Provide expert academic discipline-based reference and consultation, research assistance, and course support, as well as develop and implement creative library services and programs to integrate collections with teaching and research.
  • Collection Development and Information Management: Select, recommend, monitor, evaluate, and manage reference and research collections in assigned disciplines to meet curricular and research needs, and participate in system-wide shared collection initiatives.
  • Scholarly Communication, Outreach, and Engagement: Proactively support researchers on scholarly communication models, promote open access sources and tools, and help researchers find, manage, and critically evaluate information and data.
Requirements
  • Education: Degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program or a certified foreign equivalent.
  • Experience: Experience collaborating with instructors to provide library instruction and research services, as well as experience with electronic resources and information technologies to support reference, research, and collection development.
  • Skills: Ability to develop outreach strategies, build relationships with faculty and students, and deliver high-impact services and resources, as well as ability to build collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationships with people of varying backgrounds and perspectives.
