Job Summary

The Paramedic is a critical care professional responsible for providing emergency medical care to patients accessing the emergency department. This role requires a comprehensive care team approach, collaborating with RNs, physicians, and ancillary staff to ensure quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer BLS, PALS, ACLS, and critical care interventions under physician medical oversight, adhering to the National EMS Scope of Practice Model and Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services guidelines.
  • Perform triage, assessments, interventions, and patient education as needed.
  • Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records in a timely manner.
  • Promote patient independence by establishing personal rapport and care goals, teaching patients, friends, and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support.
  • Clearly identify self as a licensed paramedic and protect patients and employees by adhering to all CHI Saint Joseph Health policies, protocols, and procedures.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate from a nationally/state-approved accrediting paramedic program.
  • Unrestricted Kentucky Paramedic License.
  • Active BLS, ACLS, PALS American Heart Association Certifications.
