About the Job

As a Veterinarian at Petco, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment. You will utilize a problem-based approach to develop complete problem lists, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and appropriate treatments based on diagnostic test results.

You will also document all patient observations, findings, treatments, and medications in the medical record in a concise and detailed fashion. Additionally, you will perform routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory surgeries, and mass removals.

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be compassionate and sympathetic, and maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations. They must be comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries, have telephone and computer skills, and be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state where the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License (if applicable)
  • USDA Category I Accreditation (minimum) or completion within two months of hire date

Work Environment

The majority of job duties are conducted in the Vetco Total Care veterinary full-service hospital. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of time will be spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.

Salary Range

$50.75 - $81.25 per hour
