Job Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs a variety of complex imaging and non-imaging tests on patients of all ages, from neonatal to geriatric, which require professional judgment and interaction with patients, physicians, and other allied healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Dose Calculation and Administration: Correctly makes modifications of radionuclide and pharmaceutical doses, performs manual decay and concentration formulas, and administers appropriate dosages of radiopharmaceuticals in preparation for diagnostic procedures.
  • Imaging Procedures: Establishes correct patient identification, order verification, relevant diagnosis, and appropriateness of exam prior to performing imaging procedure, records relevant patient history, labs, and other correlative imaging results, and educates and thoroughly explains procedure to patient.
  • Operates Imaging Equipment: Performs quality control procedures on instruments, checks operation and calibrates monitoring devices against known standards, records and maintains records of equipment checks, and performs minor routine maintenance on equipment as necessary.
  • Radiation Protection: Receives and checks all radionuclide shipments for contamination, documents and enters all radioactive shipments received in a timely manner, takes responsibility for tracking and disposal of radioactivity and contaminated materials, and monitors personnel, work areas, and patient rooms in accordance with prescribed procedures.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology training program.
  • ARRT (N), or NMTCB certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support).
Qualifications
  • Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development and competence in providing Nuclear Medicine services for patients of all ages, including neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Light to Medium Physical Demand (20 to 50 lbs), Frequent hand washing required, Frequent standing, walking, Occasional sitting, bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, pulling, pushing, stretching, reaching, climbing, twisting, Frequent lifting, carrying, holding when moving/using equipment, and other materials.
