Key Responsibilities of the Geriatric Medicine Specialist:
  • Engage with patients to assess their symptoms and health concerns.
  • Diagnose and manage acute illnesses, including bacterial and viral infections, as well as chronic conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, or diabetes.
  • Prescribe or administer medications, therapies, and specialized medical care to treat or prevent health issues.
  • Communicate procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
  • Monitor patient conditions and progress, re-evaluating treatments as necessary.
  • Offer health and wellness guidance to patients, covering diet, physical activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
  • Administer immunizations to protect against preventable diseases.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of patient appointments, including comments, tests, treatments prescribed, and test results.
  • Refer patients to other medical specialists when required.
  • Provide support and guidance to patients receiving long-term care.
  • Prepare necessary health documents or records as needed.
  • Conduct research into the testing and development of new medications, treatment methods, or procedures to prevent or control illnesses.
