General Overview:

The Custodian is responsible for a range of cleaning tasks aimed at ensuring a tidy, sanitary, and safe work environment both inside and outside the facility. The role involves varied responsibilities that may change frequently.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to: Plant Manager; Assistant Plant Manager

Supervises: None

Main Responsibilities:
  • Complies with company policies and operational guidelines.
  • Punctually attends scheduled shifts.
  • Procures cleaning supplies as necessary and verifies invoice accuracy.
  • Maintains cleanliness and visual appeal of the center, performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, power washing, scrubbing, dusting, and sanitizing.
  • Disinfects surfaces by utilizing appropriate cleaning solutions; ensures fixtures and furnishings are polished and clean; addresses wall and light switch cleanliness; manages window and door cleaning; and keeps areas free of debris.
  • Responsible for the interior and exterior cleaning of delivery vehicles, as well as totes and carts used for product transport.
  • Stays informed about new cleaning products and safety protocols, including OSHA regulations and safety equipment; identifies and reports safety concerns.
  • Collects and disposes of waste from work areas, ensuring trash containers are maintained.
  • Restocks hand sanitizers, paper towels, toilet paper, and other disposables in designated areas.
  • Keeps janitorial tools and storage areas organized and in a safe condition.
  • Replaces light bulbs as required.
  • Monitors plumbing and equipment, reporting any maintenance needs to supervisors.
  • Installs and replaces dispensers for paper towels, toilet paper, and soap as necessary.
  • Handles minor equipment maintenance tasks.
  • Clears clogged drains as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Assists in various areas of the center as required.
  • Completes other job-related tasks and special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains cleanliness of cooling systems and filters.
  • Consistently presents a clean and professional appearance.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to address practical problems with various variables and limited standardization; capable of interpreting instructions.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to follow verbal or demonstrated instructions and communicate supply requests.
Education and Experience:

Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent; at least one year of custodial experience or related background.

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; up to 20 pounds frequently; and up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Ability to stand and walk for 6-8 hours daily.
  • Visual acuity to see at varying distances, with or without correction.
  • Must be capable of performing physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions.
Work Environment:

This role is situated in a fast-paced environment that may involve pressure to meet deadlines. Potential exposure to dirt, noise, temperature variations, dampness, vibrations, and cleaning chemicals.

Equipment Utilized:

Scrubber, buffer/swing machine, mop, hand tools, power tools, and vacuum.

Interactions:

Daily contact with suppliers, employees, and office staff; occasional communication with regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
