Job Title: Court Security Deputy

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office is seeking highly skilled and dedicated individuals to fill the role of Court Security Deputy. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the courthouse, its occupants, and the general public.

Job Summary:

This is a part-time, temporary intermittent position working up to 21 hours per week. The schedule will generally be daytime hours, Monday through Friday. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing court security duties as prescribed by the Tenth Judicial Court System.

Responsibilities:
  • Call the court to order and maintain order in the courtroom.
  • Escort defendants and protect and guard the jury and exhibits used in court trials.
  • Ensure the readiness of the courtroom prior to proceedings.
  • Take necessary action to thwart an escape or make an arrest as necessary.
  • Restrains individuals as directed or required.
  • Record judicial directives or decisions on necessary forms for use by the Sheriff; make warrant arrests if necessary.
  • Carry a weapon in the courtroom.
  • Work the security screening checkpoint.
Requirements:
  • Must currently be licensed by the Minnesota Board of Peace Officers Standard and Training and employed as a full-time peace officer OR retired in good standing as a peace officer in the state of Minnesota and current with POST license requirements OR retired in good standing as a peace officer from a state other than Minnesota and be eligible to be licensed in Minnesota through reciprocity examination.
  • Must possess a valid Minnesota Driver's License.
  • Must be able to meet departmental requirements (practical and written) in the carrying of a firearm.
  • Must successfully complete a thorough background investigation.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions:
  • Ability to tolerate the stress associated with working in a potentially dangerous environment, maintain self-control when confronted with verbal harassment or threats, and stay calm and respond with composure in emergencies.
  • Ability to see, hear, and remember people, evidence, facts, and circumstances, stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, or crawl periodically as needed, lift and carry or drag objects or people weighing up to 100 pounds, and to chase and subdue suspects as required.
Selection Process:

Pre-employment Requirements:

Anoka County has determined that successfully passing a pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen, and DOT physical, and/or other qualifications checks may be necessary for certain positions. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the County to obtain to conduct such screenings and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought.
