Job Goals:
Support student(s) with a variety of needs by providing individualized academic, behavioral, functional life skills, and social-emotional instruction; medical/health care, feeding and hygiene assistance; and support for learning, mobility, emotional regulation, health care, and communication.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Assist students by reinforcing academic subjects, social-emotional-behavioral learning, independence, and community access/job skills.
2. Support teachers by facilitating student participation in class activities, adapting/modifying assignments, monitoring behavior, and administering assessments.
3. Implement specialized instruction, accommodations, modifications, and routines as outlined by professional staff and/or each child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or related Behavior Intervention Plan.
4. Provide direct care or assist students with needs related to toileting, feeding, dressing, mobility, and accessing the educational environment.
5. Prepare the classroom or learning environment with necessary supplies and maintain required records.
6. Communicate with students, families, and professional staff in a respectful and confidential manner, sharing observations and data regarding students in a timely manner.
7. Supervise students during transitions to and from classrooms, on field trips, and during other activities.
8. Attend required training sessions, meetings, and school functions.
9. Provide behavior prevention and intervention support, including physical intervention when necessary.
10. Administer medication under the supervision of the RN after delegation.
11. Provide first aid and/or CPR to students as needed.
12. Deliver care as outlined in an Individualized Health Care Plan.
13. Document student data as required (IEP goal progress, behavioral events, observational data, etc.) after training.
14. Demonstrate flexibility in adjusting tasks to meet building or district-level needs.
15. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Technical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
1. Strong oral and written communication skills.
2. Excellent interpersonal skills.
3. Proficiency in the English language.
4. Bilingual communication skills preferred.
5. Basic mathematical skills.
6. Proficient in personal computer and keyboarding skills.

Tools and Equipment:
Experience with wheelchairs, bus lifts, office equipment, audio-visual tools, and medical equipment.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands for handling and communication. The employee frequently stands, walks, sits, and reaches. Occasionally, the employee may need to climb, stoop, kneel, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
Salary:
Compensation for Special Education Paraeducators is based on the Classified Salary Schedule. New hires may bring in up to 8 years of relevant experience. Typically, new hires start at the lower end of the salary range.

Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 offers medical, dental, vision, chiropractic, life, long-term disability, and accidental death & dismemberment insurance, along with paid time off benefits.
Employment Period:
187 days per year with a 7 or 7.5-hour workday.
