Radiation Oncology Dosimetrist

As a Dosimetrist at Advocate Aurora Health, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of radiation therapy treatments. This position requires a strong understanding of radiation oncology equipment and software applications, as well as excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities- Perform virtual simulation using computed tomography (CT)/simulation and treatment planning software.
- Measure and generate radiation dose distributions and calculations as directed.
- Correlate, perform calculations, measurements, and fusions of scans using positron emission tomography (PET), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and CT treatment planning with simulation and treatment for all cases, including protocols.
- Prepare treatment plans to limit doses to critical structures by optimizing computerized plans and perform treatment planning for all cases, utilizing all treatment planning algorithms as needed under the direction of a Medical Physicist.
- Perform treatment planning for implant programs and complex cases; edit and troubleshoot problems with multileaf collimation as directed.
- Verify and record data in patient charts, troubleshoot patient information in medical records, and perform chart audits for accuracy and thoroughness of prescribed treatment to actual plan.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and perform quality assurance (QA) on equipment as required.
- Rapidly adopt and champion implementation of new technology and techniques; serve as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for staff, and conduct in-services as assigned.
- Assist with accreditation process and departmental QA activities as assigned; lead the development of a new competency or assist in completion of competencies for other staff.
- Medical Dosimetrist certification (CMD) issued by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
- Associate's Degree in Radiation Therapy or related field.
- Typically requires 3 years of experience in a Dosimetrist position.
This role requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. The incumbent must also be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force, perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present, utilize proper body mechanics, and sit for 70% of the workday.
