UPMC Life Changing Medicine is seeking a Certified Orthoptist to support the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus, and Adult Motility. This is a full-time opportunity to work in a clinical setting, evaluating and treating children and adults with ocular motility disorders.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and treat patients with ocular motility disorders, including amblyopia, convergence insufficiency, and accommodative esotropia.
- Perform visual acuity testing, ocular motility testing, and patient medical history.
- Provide instruction to patients and guardians on treatment plans and eye care.
- Work in conjunction with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in departmental research projects, collecting clinical data and establishing protocols.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including referral for surgery or conservative orthoptic treatment.
- Undertake general administrative duties, including training students and other healthcare professionals.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and clinical staff.
- Bachelor's Degree in a medical field (preference for a degree in a medical field).
- Graduates of accredited orthoptic schools in the United States seek to obtain national certification, granted by the American Orthoptic Council upon successful completion of both written and oral/practical board examinations.
- Certification through the American Orthoptic Council is mandatory within the first three years of employment.
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal, Act 33 with renewal, Act 34 with renewal, and Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
