Job Summary:The Medical Coder-Outpatient will be responsible for assigning accurate codes to patient encounters, monitoring regulatory and policy requirements, and maintaining technical currency through continuing education and training opportunities. You will work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure that coding practices are in line with industry standards and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:- Assign accurate codes to patient encounters based on provider documentation and industry guidelines
- Monitor regulatory and policy requirements affecting coded information
- Maintain technical currency through continuing education and training opportunities
- Work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure coding practices are in line with industry standards and guidelines
- Develop and submit written queries to providers to request clarification of conflicting or incomplete documentation
- Monitor query submission, response times, and completion
- Provide education and feedback to providers and other clinical staff to resolve documentation issues
- Associate's Degree or higher in Health Information Management or related field
- Three years of medical coding and/or auditing experience in at least two or more medical, surgical, and ancillary specialties
- Current BLS certification
- U.S. citizenship (for access to Government computer systems)
