Job Description

Patterson-UTI Drilling is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Controls Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Controls and Automation group, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of drilling rig control systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of engineers in the conception, design, development, and maintenance of drilling rig control system software and hardware.
  • Develop and implement control algorithms, system architecture, and compile software for PLC/PAC/SBC based systems.
  • Design and implement Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and data logging systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Technical Services, and HSE management, to ensure seamless integration of control systems with drilling operations.
  • Provide technical support to field personnel and ensure compliance with company processes and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or related field.
  • Proven experience in ladder logic design and implementation, HMI development, and PLC/PAC/SBC programming.
  • 5+ years of experience in drilling controls and automation, with a strong understanding of drilling rig equipment and control systems.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a multi-developer environment.
  • Proven experience with PLC/PAC/SBC programming related to drilling controls and automation.
  • Experience in HMI development using Wonderware/WinCC and Omron PLC programming using CX-One software.
