Shift:

Full-time, Night shifts, including weekends as necessary. Reporting to the Director of Radiology/Imaging, with accountability to the Manager and Team Facilitator, and under the guidance of radiologists, the MRI Technologist performs MRI procedures with minimal oversight; documents procedures and maintains patient records while ensuring patient safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts all standard MRI imaging procedures; selects appropriate technique protocols.
  2. Prepares and positions patients for MRI examinations; utilizes immobilization devices as needed.
  3. Processes and develops images according to established protocols.
  4. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to assess, treat, and care for patients across all age groups (from neonatal to geriatric); implements assessment, treatment, and care based on the developmental stages of the patient.

  5. Involves family members or guardians in the care plan and provides education to patients and families, considering the developmental needs of the patient.

  6. Retrieves non-controlled medications as required.
  7. Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  8. Performs established calibration and quality control procedures to ensure optimal MRI equipment performance; alerts supervisor to any unusual findings.

  9. Participates in maintaining accurate patient and operational records consistent with the Radiology Department.
  10. Takes responsibility for personal professional development by attending Continuing Education classes, seminars, and reading professional literature; offers suggestions for technological enhancements in MRI services.

  11. Attends in-services and technical meetings as required.

Qualifications:

  1. ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or ARMRIT (American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists) registered as an MR technologist, OR ARRT registered with six months of supervised MRI clinical scanning experience, OR an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in an allied health field with certification in another clinical imaging field (such as ARDMS or NMTCB) and six months of supervised MRI clinical scanning experience, OR performing MRI continuously since October 1996 and evaluated by a responsible physician for competence.
  2. Preferred: One year of MRI experience with expertise in transverse anatomy.
  3. Knowledge of and/or experience in the proper use of body mechanics.
  4. Current CPR certification.
  5. Interpersonal skills necessary for effective interaction with patients who may be anxious or confused, as well as with physicians and other hospital staff.

  6. Analytical ability to determine proper patient positioning and computer codes based on suspected pathology, patient size and age, and other relevant factors.

  7. Written and verbal communication skills necessary for documenting patient procedures and informing patients about their procedures.
