SUMMARY

We are seeking a Respiratory Care Student to join our team at SSM Health. As a member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administer medications and treatments to patients under appropriate supervision, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Deliver and assess patient response to ordered therapy, making adjustments as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition to healthcare teams, facilitating effective care coordination.
  • Provide patient education on diseases, medications, and treatment options, empowering patients to take control of their health.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and rapid responses, demonstrating expertise and composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program, with a strong foundation in respiratory care principles and practices.
  • No experience required, but a passion for learning and growth is essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication, ensuring effective patient interaction.
  • Constant standing and walking, requiring stamina and mobility.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs, necessitating strength and dexterity.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry, demanding attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more), requiring visual acuity and spatial awareness.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors, crucial for patient assessment and diagnosis.
  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc., necessitating auditory acuity.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs, requiring additional strength and endurance.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients, necessitating physical ability and compassion.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements, demanding flexibility and agility.
  • Occasional driving, requiring a valid driver's license and safe driving skills.
  • Rare crawling and running, necessitating energy and athleticism.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Respiratory Educ Permit - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Letter of Acknowledgment of Receipt of Application for Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner - Oklahoma Medical Board
  • Or Provisional Respiratory Care Therapist - Oklahoma Medical Board

ESTIMATED SALARY: $45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
