Job Summary

As a RN Medical Office Specialist at Prisma Health, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care, education, and support to patients in a physician specialty practice. Your objective will be to coordinate high-quality care across the continuum, functioning as a clinical and community resource, educator, and consultant to patients, their families, and other healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain an advanced knowledge base of disease entities, including cancer treatment, medications, and other options specific to the medical specialty.
  • Assess and evaluate extensive health history of patients, evaluating the effectiveness of care and making changes according to predetermined care plans or after consultation with physicians.
  • Monitor patients' progress, consult with surgeons or designees, and other members of the care delivery team as needed, referring to appropriate physicians or programs when instructed by physicians.
  • Serve as the primary contact for patient/family members in non-emergent situations, performing phone triage accurately by involving physicians as needed while using critical thinking skills and advanced knowledge to handle the majority of patient care issues.
  • Identify learning needs of patients and/or family members, working with team members to develop and carry out educational plans and making changes throughout the process to ensure educational objectives are met.
  • Assist with office invasive procedures and all other surgical procedures provided in the practice setting as needed, providing comfort and safety measures for patients before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Maintain collaborative professional working relationships with clinicians and administrative staff necessary to develop and implement successful cross-continuum care management for patients with advanced disease processes.
  • Utilize the routine nursing process in the delivery of patient care in the office setting, including assessment, planning, interventions, evaluation, and patient/family teaching, and document appropriately in patients' EMRs.
  • Assume responsibility for patient safety by maintaining a safe environment, including awareness of safety procedures, protocols, and adherence to patient care standards, participating in environmental rounds to ensure a safe environment, sterilizing equipment and instruments properly, and maintaining correct logs as directed by the nursing manager.
  • Champion the development, implementation, and evaluation of PI projects and policies and procedures specific to the specialty area, assisting new team members until they are proficient.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree - Nursing
  • Three (3) years clinical nursing experience with one (1) year experience in the department specialty
  • South Carolina Licensed RN - REGISTERED NURSE (Lawson Code NLRN)

  • Certification in specialty area
  • Bachelor's Degree
