Job Overview

The responsibilities of the speech-language pathologist include several key areas:

  • Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive speech-language assessments, including screenings for students referred for evaluation, consultations regarding referrals, and the administration of both standardized and criterion-referenced assessments.
  • Direct Intervention: Deliver targeted intervention and therapy, including the creation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for eligible students, designing interventions tailored to each student's IEP, and implementing therapy through diverse service delivery models.
  • Collaboration: Engage in consultations and collaborative efforts with parents and other professionals. This includes active participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, annual reviews, case study conferences, and IEP meetings.
  • Documentation: Complete necessary special education documentation, including IEPs, notices of meetings, evaluation reports, and progress notes, as mandated by educational authorities.
  • Program Development: Participate in program development and staff training activities, which may involve delivering in-service presentations on referrals, speech-language disorders, and other relevant professional topics.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Fulfill any other duties as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring alignment with the educational institution's mission and strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in Communication Disorders from an accredited program.
  • A comprehensive understanding of normal and disordered speech and language development, diagnostic processes, therapeutic techniques, and child development.
  • Current certification in Oregon for speech-language pathology is required, with additional ASHA certification preferred.
