Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Assistant to join our team in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at UNC Health. As a Nursing Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting, including routine activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation.
  • Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
  • Provide care and treatments to patients as outlined in the plan of care, including vital sign measurement, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, postural drainage, and supportive patient and family interactions.
  • Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
  • Six (6) months of relevant nursing assistant experience, which may include a nursing assistant course
  • Fluent in verbal and written English language and able to develop basic computer skills
Work Environment

This is a 36 hours per week position, working 12 hour rotating shifts with weekend and holiday rotation. The position requires the ability to attend a week-long orientation, which is offered every two weeks.
