Job Summary

As a Youth Cheerleading Coach at the Greater Austin YMCA, you will play a vital role in our mission to develop young athletes. This position goes beyond coaching; it's about creating a positive environment where youth can grow their confidence, build teamwork, and essential life skills. You'll inspire and mentor participants, helping them build cheerleading abilities while instilling values like respect and perseverance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and instruct youth recreational cheerleading classes, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Plan classes and tailor them to the skill level of the students to include new techniques, the practice of basic moves, and language appropriate to the sport.
  • Provide guidance to help participants achieve their cheerleading goals.
  • Create a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation and personal growth.
  • Foster a love for cheerleading and teamwork through engaging and fun practices.
  • Create an environment that provides various activities and instruction to contribute to program goals.
  • Keep open lines of communication with young athletes, parents, and stakeholders regarding schedules, progress, and team activities, fostering an encouraging atmosphere.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding progress and opportunities.
  • Fill out incident reports for all accidents that occur.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Experience in cheerleading (high school, collegiate, or coaching) is essential.
  • Background in youth development, sports education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with an ability to inspire young athletes.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strong understanding of cheerleading techniques and safety practices.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certifications preferred (must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
  • Possess the ability to navigate with a variety of different personalities, as well as the learning level of participants.
  • Must be dedicated to creating a positive experience for all participants.
