Role Summary

As a Flexographic Press Operator, you will be responsible for the operation of a flexographic printing press, ensuring the production of high-quality printed materials in a safe and efficient manner. Your role will involve setting up plates, dies, inks, and coatings as per the specifications outlined in the work ticket. You will also conduct quality inspections to confirm that the printed products meet all necessary standards. Your responsibilities will include loading substrates onto the press and accurately recording all production data in the shop floor data collection system. Additionally, you may be required to mount or strip plates, mix inks, clean press components, and perform basic housekeeping and preventive maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute standard press operations to support the production team.
  • Review job tickets and collaborate with the Press Helper to ensure proper setup on the press according to specifications.
  • Conduct job setups on the press and log relevant data in the system.
  • Operate the press according to specifications and document completion, including materials used.
  • Monitor printed rolls for quality and consistency, focusing on aspects such as color registration and die cut.
  • After job completion, transfer finished rolls to the finishing department and prepare the machine for the next job.
  • Communicate any issues regarding labels and dies with the Shift Supervisor or Production Manager.
  • Ensure accurate data collection for each job, including notes on materials and time variances.
  • Assist in basic troubleshooting of the press alongside the Press Helper and Supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to company policies and safety regulations.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and participate in additional training as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a press operator or in a related printing production role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented approach to identifying and addressing issues.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage multiple label types daily.
  • Understanding of press operations and basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Mechanical aptitude to comprehend the fundamentals of press operation and maintenance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None
Training Requirements:
  • Willingness to attend mandatory training sessions related to the role.
Physical Demands:
  • Regular lifting, standing, crouching, walking, and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs with assistance.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random screenings.
Work Environment:
  • Frequent exposure to dust and noise in a production setting.
  • Warehouse temperatures may vary based on external conditions.
  • Regular contact with ink on skin and clothing.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Safety shoes and eye protection are strongly recommended in the production area.
