Position Overview:

The Finance Business Partner plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the financial operations of various business units within the organization. This position operates under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Financial Operations and ensures that all financial activities align with established policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct monthly financial reviews at both the project and business unit levels, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and identifying necessary adjustments.
  • Analyze raw financial data to create comprehensive business reports for management review.
  • Generate internal financial analysis reports on a monthly basis for senior leadership.
  • Prepare and submit external financial reports to governmental and local agencies.
  • Oversee the invoicing process for assigned units, adhering to institutional policies and guidelines.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget for programs, reporting variances and suggesting corrective measures as needed.
  • Monitor funding sources, tracking revenue and expenditure activities to ensure financial integrity.
  • Conduct analytical studies to support management decisions aimed at enhancing operational and financial performance.
  • Review and authorize expenditures in accordance with the approved budget.
  • Assist in the preparation and timely submission of grant applications and related financial documents.
  • Ensure compliance with university, federal, state, and private agency regulations.
  • Act as a liaison and advisor for principal investigators and departments regarding grant management.
  • Evaluate and improve financial operations and workflows, focusing on efficiency and automation.
  • Provide training and ongoing education to staff regarding compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement internal control procedures to ensure compliance within assigned programs.
  • Support submissions to the Position Action Committee (PAC).
  • Gain a thorough understanding of the business model of the units.
  • Contribute to assessments of new business opportunities, including financial aspects of proposals and pricing strategies.
  • Collaborate with key personnel across operations, finance, marketing, and systems on strategic initiatives.
  • Work with representatives from various departments to define and prioritize strategic direction.
  • Maintain communication with staff responsible for daily financial operations.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in a financial role.
  • Proficiency in managing and analyzing financial documents.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Access.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with pricing models and business proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • High level of discretion and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with PeopleSoft software.
  • Familiarity with grant management processes.
