Job Description

The VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION seeks a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice and consultation on complex medical laboratory tests, including those requiring special knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide authoritative advice and consultation on difficult, complex, or unique tests
  • Advises all organizational levels on various aspects of specialized testing, including appropriateness that takes into consideration clinical context
  • Works independently and is given freedom of action under the general guidance of a pathologist or other laboratory practitioner

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or related field
  • Generalist certification as an MLS or MT from ASCP BOC or AMT
  • At least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level
  • Knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, methodology of medical laboratory technology, regulatory and accrediting agency requirements, medico-legal requirements, and pertinent statistics sufficient to perform complex diagnostic tests
