We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Records Coding Specialist to join our team at BronxCare Health System. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Utilize electronic applications to interpret and abstract pertinent patient health information from documentation in the medical record.
- Identify principle, secondary diagnosis and procedures, including complications and co-morbidities, and assign present on admission (POA) value.
- Code a minimum of 15 records per day with an accuracy rate of 90%.
- Identify discrepancies between demographic and financial data and forward error cases to the manager for correction.
- Exhibit a high degree of accuracy and adhere to Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
- 2-4 years of medical records coding experience.
- CCS certification required.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Medical Records Information Systems experience.
This is a regular full-time position with a maximum hourly rate of $31.05. The shift is day shift, and the department is Medical Records (MLK).
