The High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) at SARA, Inc. is seeking an Assembly Technician with a solid foundation and eagerness to acquire skills in assembly and fabrication to facilitate production efforts and transition cutting-edge technologies to various defense entities. This role offers the chance to develop alongside skilled engineers, physicists, and technicians on established and new initiatives.

The Assembly Technician will engage in diverse technical support activities across one or more manufacturing sectors. Responsibilities may include the fabrication, assembly, or repair of mechanical and electrical systems, soldering, wiring harness assembly, quality control, and providing essential support to the production team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively as part of a team or independently to complete assembly tasks.
  • Fabricate and test mechanical and electrical assemblies and subassemblies.
  • Prepare and clean materials and components for assembly processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including floors, workbenches, and tools.
  • Apply necessary skills and techniques to assemble units adhering to stringent Quality Assurance standards.
  • Occasionally work in an Electrical Static Discharge (ESD) controlled environment.
  • Interpret blueprints and follow detailed assembly instructions.
  • Utilize measuring and diagnostic tools to test parts and assemblies.
  • Generate Configuration and Serialization Reports for each assembly, subject to inspection.
  • Promptly report any material or assembly issues to the supervisor.
  • Research and resolve issues as needed based on specifications.
  • Assist in preparing, conducting, and documenting laboratory tests.
  • Engage with engineering staff and external vendors at all levels.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • Experience in soldering electrical components and fabricating wiring harnesses.
  • Ability to follow documented work instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in using common hand tools and understanding their proper use.
  • Familiarity with dimensional measurement tools (tape measures, calipers, micrometers, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office and Email).
  • Efficiently organize and prioritize workload.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for security clearance purposes.

Physical Requirements:

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be able to pass an OSHA-approved Pulmonary Fitness Test (PFT) to wear a respirator if necessary.
  • Moderate to strenuous physical activity, including standing, bending, and lifting up to 40+ pounds.
  • Indoor working environment with moderate noise levels and potential physical hazards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Mechanical and Electrical Troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering schematics and drawings.
  • Experience in an ESD environment.
  • Military Veteran status is a plus.
