Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Critical Care Technician to join our team at Capital Health Services. As a Critical Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in our critical care unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient care activities, including bathing, mouth care, and incontinence care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Apply basic dressings, slings, and splints, as well as antiembolism and sequential pressure stockings, under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
  • Collect specimens, such as stool, urine, and sputum, in a timely manner.
  • Empties and cleans ostomy and other device bags efficiently.
  • Record accurate intake and output per unit standards.
  • Provide nutrition to patients, including feeding, monitoring tube feedings, and delivering nourishment.
  • Make pertinent observations about patients and document accurate and timely observations in patient records.
  • Assist with post-mortem care and CPR under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician.
  • Perform phlebotomy, glucometer testing, and EKGs as determined by unit and following competency attainment.
  • Stock supplies as required by designated unit and maintain a well-cleaned and organized environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • One year prior experience as an EMT, military medic, PCA in an acute care or equivalent skill in long-term care setting, completion of a medical assistant program, or successful completion of two clinical semesters of an accredited nursing school.
  • AHA BLS certification.
  • Proficient in English, verbal and written communication.
Work Environment

Frequent physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, carrying objects, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching forward, reaching overhead, and squatting/kneeling/crawling. Occasional physical demands include climbing, wrist position deviation, pinching/fine motor activities, and keyboard use/repetitive motion. Continuous physical demands include talking or hearing, lifting floor to waist (80 lbs), lifting waist level and above (85 lbs), and sensory requirements including very accurate 20/40 near vision, very accurate 20/40 far vision, color discrimination, accurate depth perception, and accurate hearing.

Anticipated occupational exposure risks include bloodborne pathogens, chemical, airborne communicable disease, uneven surfaces or elevations, extreme noise levels, and dust/particulate matter.
