Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse - ICU Float Pool provides safe, cost-effective patient care through the health experience, according to established standards utilizing the nursing process, within the scope of practice of Registered Nursing, for the Float Unit at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
  • Ensure patient safety and risk management
  • Assess patients and develop a written plan of care using assessment database
  • Implement patient care and evaluate and revise patient care as needed
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships and communication with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Contribute to unit, department, and hospital contributions through participation in quality improvement initiatives and other activities
  • Participate in performance appraisal and working responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive and professional attitude
  • Develop and maintain skills roster and participate in ongoing education and training

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors, including relevant years of experience and qualifications. Additional compensation may be available for this role, including shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements/Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years Critical Care Acute Care hospital experience or 5 years ICU Long Term Facility experience
  • Completion of pre-employment drug screening
  • Completion of pre-employment criminal background reference check
  • Completion of pre-employment health evaluation including TB screening and annual or bi-annual re-evaluation as indicated by Employee Health

Education/Licensure/Certification - Required Prior to Patient Care Assignment:

  • BSN required unless waived by nurse executive council review
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required for all areas
  • Completion of unit orientation and clinical competency validation
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing program unless otherwise approved by the Nursing Executive Council (NEC)
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California is required
  • A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) & ACLS certification are also required
  • Current NIHSS Certificate required

Additional Certifications - required within 6 months of hire (or transfer into) department
