Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Practice Professional to join our ICU team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our critical care team, you will provide comprehensive and individualized care to patients and families in the inpatient/critical care phase of hospitalization.

Responsibilities
  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for patients and families in the inpatient/critical care phase of hospitalization
  • Order additional tests or consults to complete the preoperative and/or pre-procedure workup
  • Perform, interpret, and communicate results of common diagnostic tests
  • Consult and communicate with Critical Care and surgical services regarding abnormal findings in the evaluations of patients
  • Develop a comprehensive individualized plan of care for patients that include teaching, discharge planning, and necessary referral to other members of the health care team
  • Participate in physician/team rounds
  • Identify unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitate appropriate intervention with appropriate resources
  • Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making by the identification, evaluation, and management of the individual needs of patients/families
  • Demonstrate the ability to utilize basic equipment in a safe manner
  • Facilitate patient discharge/transfer by coordination of appropriate services
  • Bases decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care, and/or research findings
  • Promote an environment that facilitates learning by responding to appropriate patient/family preferences, priorities, and readiness to learn
  • Update own knowledge base throughout the year
  • Complete all identified clinical competencies
  • Mentor nursing personnel in all levels of clinical practice
  • Communicate effectively with patients/families, physicians, and ancillary services at all levels to assure coordinated efficient patient care
  • Document the plan of care, interventions, and evaluations in a clear and concise manner
  • Adhere to the established Performance Expectations for WVU-UHA Employees in the areas of People, Service, Performance Improvement, and Shared Values & Culture
  • Perform initial assessment and develop plan for new admissions in conjunction with the critical care attending physician
  • Ensure patient summary (i.e., Problem List) and orders are current
  • Ensure appropriate transition to next team when patient is ready to leave the ICU
  • Perform appropriate procedures as directed by Critical Care Team and within scope of practice
Requirements
  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master's Degree in Nursing
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia
  • 2 years acute care experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters level education as Medical/Surgical (as applicable) Advanced Practice Professional preferred
  • Acute care, critical care experience preferred
