Job Overview

Position Purpose and Objectives
Under the guidance of the Supervisor and/or Department Manager, this role involves executing line setups, changeovers, and performing mechanical and electrical repairs on liquid, topical, and powder filling and packaging machinery. The technician will also carry out assigned preventive maintenance tasks and ensure accurate documentation of work performed, including dates, times, and parts utilized, in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to all company and OSHA safety protocols while repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment, including conveyor systems and production machines, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer specifications, utilizing hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Conduct visual inspections of mechanical devices in operation and listen for unusual sounds to identify issues.
- Assess the form and texture of components to detect any imperfections.
- Evaluate used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, employing rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
- Adjust functional components of production machinery as necessary.
- Repair or replace defective parts using hand and power tools.
- Install special functional and structural components in devices with hand tools.
- Initiate devices to test their operational performance.
- Lubricate and clean components to ensure optimal functioning.
- May set up and operate metalworking tools such as drill presses and grinders to fabricate and repair parts.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform immediate repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Overhaul and install new machinery as required.
- Rebuild and fabricate components to maintain production efficiency.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment while performing facility maintenance.
- Generate parts requests to maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Complete assigned work orders efficiently.
- Execute equipment changeovers and production line setups.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Basic mathematical skills are essential.
- Familiarity with liquid filling, capping, and labeling equipment is required.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficient in using a multimeter for testing resistance and voltages.
- Capable of diagnosing and repairing pneumatic and hydraulic system components.
- Skilled in using hand tools for machinery repairs.
- Competent in operating basic power tools and shop equipment, including drill presses and band saws.

Supervisory Responsibility
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Working Conditions
- Collaborates with the Supervisor of Mechanics for daily tasks and provides support as needed to line leaders, quality control, production supervisors, and other management personnel. The role may involve working in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned environments.
- Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, bending, climbing ladders, and working in man lifts and forklift cages.

Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a high-speed packaging environment is required.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge in practical situations.
- Strong communication skills are essential.
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work additional hours on short notice to meet production goals.
