Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Academic Success Advising Specialist to join our team at CSU Fullerton. As a key member of our Academic Advising community, you will play a pivotal role in supporting students' academic journey and providing tailored guidance and resources to help them achieve their educational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide sustained and personalized one-on-one academic advising sessions to support students' academic, personal, and professional development.
  • Assist students in creating and implementing tailored academic plans, including course selection and academic goal setting.
  • Help students set SMART goals and proactively follow-up to ensure progress.
  • Offer guidance on study skills, time management, and organizational techniques to enhance students' academic performance.
  • Introduce students to supplemental instruction, tutoring, and other academic support services, and encourage regular participation.
  • Facilitate workshops, seminars, and other educational programs focused on academic success strategies.
  • Provide information about university policies, procedures, and regulations to students.
  • Monitor progress of students with check-ins, scheduled meetings, email communication, and text messaging, responding to students' questions, concerns, and needs.
  • Monitor student progress and retention.
Requirements
  • Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
  • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience advising students in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience working with a diverse student, faculty, staff, and community population.
  • Previous experience working with students on academic notice or at-risk or academic notice.
  • Experience working with Hispanic/other underserved students and families.
  • Strong understanding of academic advising principles and knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate with campus partners, faculty, and staff.
