Overview:

The Certified Ophthalmic Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring optimal patient care and the smooth operation of clinical activities. This position necessitates a solid grasp of ophthalmic practices and patient management. Familiarity with medical equipment and its appropriate maintenance is essential. The ability to identify potential safety risks and implement measures to create a secure working environment is required. Effective communication with patients, colleagues, and supervisors is vital. A collaborative spirit and an understanding of the importance of time management are essential attributes.

Key Responsibilities:

Adheres to the established OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Self-Leadership, Team Leadership, or Executive Leadership.
Possesses an advanced comprehension of ocular anatomy and demonstrates proficiency in assisting physicians with documentation.
Provides timely and professional support to the physician during patient interactions, including gathering medical histories and delivering patient education.

Conducts comprehensive technical assessments, which encompass visual acuity testing, lensometry, color vision assessments, visual field evaluations (Humphrey and Goldman), manual keratometry, refraction, Amsler grid testing, muscle assessments, topography, pupil examinations, OCT, pachymetry, and other specialized tests as directed by the physician.

Executes advanced technical evaluations, including retinoscopy and A-Scans, as instructed by the physician.
Adheres to physician protocols for A-Scans and provides assistance in Special Testing as required.

Qualifications:

A High School Diploma is mandatory.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in an ophthalmology clinical environment is required.
BLS certification is necessary.
Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician (COT) is required.
Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) is preferred.
