Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Housekeeping and Floor Technician to join our team at the Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging. This is a full-time position responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities, including public areas, offices, and restrooms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and disinfect all surfaces, including sinks, countertops, work surfaces, appliances, and metal fixtures in assigned locations.
  • Clean and disinfect all surfaces, including floors, sinks, mirrors, countertops, shower stalls, toilets, and metal fixtures in all restrooms assigned.
  • Clean, dust, disinfect, sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, and/or buff floors and all other surfaces in halls, stairways, elevators, offices, meeting rooms, conference center, and other assigned areas.
  • Lift and move furniture and/or equipment as required.
  • Strip floors and apply wax as directed; operate polishing and buffing machines.
  • Perform carpet care duties as directed; operate machines to perform vacuuming, bonneting, spot extraction, and hallway extraction.
  • Dust and wash walls, glass/windows, ceilings, doors, and frames (including tops of doors); set up and remove ladders; clean lighting fixtures, vents, and all high areas assigned.
  • Clean and polish elevator doors; inside walls, buttons, floors, ceilings, and door tracks.
  • Wash doors and kick plates; spot clean doors, windows, window treatments, and walls.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and rubbish. Clean wastebaskets and garbage cans, replace liners, break down, and dispose of cartons.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of power equipment such as carpet cleaning and high-speed floor machines.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment/machines.
  • Measurable problem-solving and computer skills inclusive of; entering and understanding the Electronic Work Order System; receiving and sending emails; general Microsoft Office skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of prior experience in cleaning and janitorial work, and operation of housekeeping floor care equipment.
Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to some computer work.
  • Moderate lifting is required, up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required. This position may require evening and/or weekend hours as needed for events.
  • Moderate noise (i.e. computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to sustain constant mobility throughout the working day and move about the facility quickly.
  • Work environment is stressful at times.
