Position Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a crucial role within the healthcare team at Genesis Prime Care. This position involves providing high-quality nursing care, administering immunizations, and delivering health education to patients across various age groups, all while adhering to established nursing standards.
Key Responsibilities
The CMA is responsible for the following tasks:
1. Clinical Services
a. Maintain clinical expertise and competency, demonstrating a thorough understanding of procedures to ensure quality primary healthcare delivery.
b. Document healthcare delivery and nursing processes in alignment with clinic policies and procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
c. Welcome and escort patients from the waiting area to examination or procedure rooms, preparing them as necessary.
d. Measure and record vital signs, inquire about the primary reason for the visit, and document findings in the electronic medical record (EMR).
e. Provide education to patients and their families regarding diagnoses and care plans, facilitating communication as needed.
f. Coordinate patient care delivery among the healthcare team.
g. Collaborate with clinic personnel and assist providers to optimize patient care and enhance patient flow and satisfaction.
h. Identify and respond promptly to changes in patients' conditions or clinic environments.
i. Manage the timely processing of patient referrals, prescribed medications, and other identified patient needs.
j. Serve as a resource for other staff members regarding patient care.
k. Foster teamwork by assisting colleagues with patient care and departmental activities.
l. Ensure adequate inventory of medical forms, supplies, in-house medications, STD medications, and immunizations.
m. Conduct maintenance checks on medical equipment and document results.
n. Administer medications accurately, following the five rights of medication administration, and document accordingly.
o. Upon completion of laboratory skill assessments, perform laboratory functions as per provider orders.
p. Schedule referrals and appointments based on authorization approvals.
2. Administrative Duties
a. Assist in maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly environment for patients and staff.
b. Familiarize oneself with and adhere to OSHA standards, hazardous materials protocols, universal precautions, and safety plans.
c. If bilingual, provide translation services between non-Spanish speaking staff and Spanish-speaking patients as needed.
3. Additional Responsibilities
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
- Understanding of health promotion principles and motivational techniques.
- Familiarity with clinic operational protocols and medical terminology.
- Ability to document patient information clearly and effectively.
- Proficiency in using office equipment and prioritizing tasks.
Preferred:
- Bilingual skills in Spanish.
Credentials and Experience
Required:
- Certification from an accredited CMA program.
- Current CPR certification for healthcare professionals.
Preferred:
- At least one year of direct patient care experience as a CMA.
