UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology is seeking a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to work in the Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic.

Job Summary:

The PMHNP functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively with physician faculty, is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care to patients in the outpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses commonly encountered, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, ADHD, psychotic disorders, and mood disorders.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions, including patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
  • Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, patient care plans, and care provided.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.
  • Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Nursing with a Psychiatric Mental Health NP certification or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Physician Assistant candidates must already have a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry through the NCCPA.
  • Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PMHNP with DEA license is strongly preferred.
  • 2 years of PMHNP experience with previous RN experience in Psychiatry is strongly preferred.
Work Environment:

UAB Sparks Center, Full-time, benefited, 8hr - day shifts (8am-5pm), No weekends/holidays, No call required.

This is an Outpatient/ Inpatient position for an individual who enjoys working with patients with mental health disorders including Anxiety, Depression, ADHD and other mental health problems.

UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology is seeking a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to work in the Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic.

The PMHNP functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively with physician faculty, is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care to patients in the outpatient setting.

The PMHNP also demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses commonly encountered, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, ADHD, psychotic disorders, and mood disorders.

Previous work experience in psychiatry highly preferred.

The PMHNP is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion and care coordination for adults living with psychiatric disorders.

The PMHNP demonstrates an advanced level of medical/nursing clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism and systems-based practice.

The PMHNP works with administrative, nursing, physician, and university faculty to assure safe, effective, quality patient care and to promote the UAB Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology educational and research missions.

The PMHNP will provide care within his/her scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, regulations, institutional policy, and practice agreements.
