Job Summary

The VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to fill the position of Risk Management Investigations Coordinator. This role will be responsible for providing leadership in the application and coordination of clinical management reviews, organizational processes, and/or systems to ensure compliance with regulatory and directives related to investigation(s) and/or fact finding(s) issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct meetings, conferences, trainings, and drafting various documents/reports, issue briefs, Executive Summaries.
  • Coordinate and oversee all incoming request(s) for Administrative Investigation Board's (AIB), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Office of General Counsel (OGC), Government Accountability Office (GAO), Tort Claims, Non-Protected Clinical Reviews, and internal issues not resolved at the service level.
  • Responsible for providing competent reports and compiling responses for Executive Leadership, Service Chiefs, OAWP, OIG, OGC, EEO/HPP, ELR/HR, and others as needed.
  • Direct the provision of investigation education trainings, orientation, competencies, and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation.
  • Function as a formal and informal educator; serving as a liaison between internal and external customers, supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction, considering the client population, including the age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences.
  • Influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the improvement of system-wide issues, productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency in health care systems.
  • Help build and implement safety systems and promote the culture of safety within the organization.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience
  • 5 or more years, nursing bedside experience (Intensive Care Medical/Surgical, Emergency Room, Step-Down, or Medical/Surgical Nursing Care Setting).
  • Demonstration of increasing progression in leadership skills and growing depth of experience directly supervising employees.
  • Employee Labor Relations knowledge and experience.
  • Program Management at the Facility level or broader.
  • Administrative Investigation Board and Fact Finding formal training.
  • Administrative Investigation Board participation, both as a team member and chair.
  • Experience in acute situation triage, oversight, action item planning, and excellent report writing skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of VA Directives, Handbooks, and Policies (i.e., specific to Cleveland VAMC).
  • Formal training in education as a teacher and experience presenting to large groups.

The following Scope, Education and Dimension criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade.

The Dimension requirements (Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research) are detailed for each grade and level within the online assessment:

  • Nurse I, Level I: Delivers fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical competencies.
  • Nurse I, Level II: Demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice in providing care to clients with basic or complex.
  • Nurse I, Level III: Demonstrates proficiency in practice based on conscious and deliberate planning. Self-directed in goal setting for managing complex client situations.
  • Nurse II: Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.
  • Nurse III: Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care beyond the immediate practice setting.
