Role Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for coordinating patient care in accordance with established standards and regulations. This role includes mentoring non-nursing staff and serving as a resource for both clinical and administrative teams in addressing issues.

Key Responsibilities:

PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Manage patient schedules and flow; welcome patients, document their concerns, and prepare them for examinations. Conduct initial interviews and review medical histories, documenting findings appropriately.
  • Accurately record patient vital signs and weight, reporting any irregularities to the supervising physician. Assist with specimen collection and testing as required.
  • Support patients with mobility, dressing, and other needs as necessary.
  • Administer minor treatments as directed by the physician and assist with minor procedures.
  • Provide education to patients and families based on assessed learning needs.
  • Document all patient-related activities by the end of each shift.
  • Coordinate patient testing and ensure pre-certification with insurance providers when necessary.
  • Respond to all phone messages from patients and healthcare providers by the end of the shift.
  • Conduct monthly checks for expired supplies and medications.
  • Maintain inventory and stock examination and procedure rooms.
  • Order supplies as needed.
  • Sanitize examination and procedure rooms and equipment after each patient encounter.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms for subsequent patients and physician requirements.
  • Communicate test results to patients as instructed by the physician and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings and continuing education opportunities, fostering effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and privacy rights, sharing information only for professional purposes that serve the patient's best interests.
  • Engage in performance improvement and risk management initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to maintain high service standards. Complete required ongoing training and education, including specific practice requirements. Exhibit professional behavior by adhering to service standards and departmental policies.
Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state.
  • Minimum of 6 contact hours of continuing education annually.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
