We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Diesel Mechanic to join our team at Santa Fe Public Schools. As a key member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for maintaining the district's fleet of vehicles, diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical issues, and ensuring the safe and reliable operation of our buses and trucks.
Key Responsibilities- Perform thorough and accurate preventative maintenance inspections to identify potential issues before they become major problems.
- Conduct complex repairs and maintenance operations, including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and exhaust repairs, and field tests to ensure the highest level of quality and safety.
- Test drive vehicles to verify that repairs have resolved the issue and ensure the vehicle is safe for operation.
- Identify and report any additional maintenance and/or repairs required to maintain the vehicle's optimal performance.
- Perform emergency roadside services as needed to ensure the safe transportation of students and staff.
- Document repairs and parts on work orders using computer systems to maintain accurate records and facilitate efficient communication with colleagues.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and regulations to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Assist bus drivers and assistants on routes and serve as a backup bus driver or assistant in the event of employee shortages to ensure the safe delivery of students to and from school.
- Participate in department meetings, in-service training, and training sessions to upgrade and maintain skills and stay up-to-date with industry developments.
- High school graduate or equivalent education, training, and experience applicable to diesel bus or truck maintenance and repair.
- Must be 21 years of age and able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver License Class B (with P and S endorsements) and adhere to requirements as outlined in #6.41.4 NMAC.
- Must be able to obtain ASE certifications for school bus repair within 12 months of hire date and maintain them throughout employment.
- Preferred: ASE certifications for school bus repair types A, B, C, and D school buses or five years' experience as a certified general line mechanic with Medium/Heavy Trucks, Transit buses, diesel, and/or gas engine machine mechanic.
The majority of work will be performed in an indoor shop setting, but mechanics must also work outdoors when repairing disabled vehicles in various weather conditions. Exposure to gasoline, diesel, and paint fumes may be encountered.
Salary Range$60,320 - $70,000+
